A file transfer is not a handoff.

Sending a folder does not tell the next person what is ready, what remains open or what they are being asked to do. A useful handoff includes the scope, current documents, important constraints and the decisions that are still outstanding.

Define the acceptance point.

Agree on what the receiving team needs before work moves forward. For an estimate-to-project handoff, that may include the approved scope, selected options, exclusions, owner contacts and a record of promises made during sales. Make the checklist specific to the work.

Keep changes visible.

When the scope changes, record the request, the effect on the plan and the approval. Share that record with the people responsible for executing it. A short, consistent change log is more useful than a long chain of messages with different versions of the same decision.
